We were heading up to Hell Roaring Lake to go backpacking,
but they closed the road due to a recent fire that started up near the trailhead.
We were supposed to meet Megan and Brad at the trailhead.
While we were waiting, the fire kept getting bigger and bigger. So sad!
We drove up to Redfish Lake instead to hike to the Bench Lakes.
At the start of the hike.
Taking a break part way up the trail.
A view of Redfish Lake from the trail.
We made camp at the second lake.
The kids waded in the warm water while Brad fished.
We had a deer visit our campsite several times throughout the night.
Some pictures of the lake in the morning...
Ready to head out.
Crossing the inlet.
...and heading back down the mountain.
Redfish Lake was buried in smoke from the previous day's fire.
Deanne carried all her own gear the whole way there and back.
It was a 7.8 mile round trip hike.
It took us about 2 1/2 hours up and less than 2 hours down.
