Hidden Lake BackPacking

On Friday the 13th, we tempted the fates and we went off on a backpacking trip into the backcountry of Idaho. Two hours driving to the top of Snowbank Mountain southwest of Cascade Lake followed by a nearly two mile hike with an elevation loss of about 1500 feet.  Here are some of the pictures...

Justin caught his dinner early in the day!

Ready to head out.

A downhill slope made for easy going on the way down.

On the way in, we passed Lost Lake,
a lake covered in lily pads.  It was about here where we lost the trail.
We wandered around lost for a little while until we finally picked up the trail again
and then continued another half mile over a ridge to Hidden lake.

Here we are by lost lake

Coming up on Hidden lake...can you see it in the background?

 Not far now!
Good thing cuz our legs were shaking
from walking downhill the whole way with a heavy pack on our backs.
This was quite a rejuvenating sight.

We made it!

Garrett immediately set to fishing

As soon as we got there i grabbed my fishing rod,
put on a spinner and cast it out by some submerged rocks.
I hooked one but as i was pullin it out of the water it got off the hook.
I cast again and got another one but the same thing happened > :(
bout 30 seconds later i hooked another one, but this time i got it :) (garrett)

Looks like Justin and Garrett are the only ones who will be eating dinner tonight.

A nice 14" Cutthroat (i think)
I cleaned it & we had it 4 dinner, it was tasty (good with curry spice)
i caught a few more but i let em go (one even tried to eat my bobber)
we had sum mountain house and trout for dinner
we went to bed then woke up
then we packed up & headed out, i liked the hike up the mtn better than the hike down

Sunrise at Hidden Lake

Eating breakfast in the morning

Garrett may have been the only one who liked the hike up better than the hike down.
We had to stop and rest frequently.
The uphill climb was tough on the ole legs.
There wasn't much merriment or singing on the way up.
Just a lot of heavy breathing, red faces and sour looks.

But, alas, we all made it!  Here we are overlooking Lost Lake.

Let's go home!
