While Megan and Garrett were away at a youth conference,
the rest of us went backpacking.
We drove almost 3 hours to Anthony Lake in Oregon.
Here we are at the start of the trail leading up to Hoffer Lakes.
Left is Justin, Deanne and Erika. Shane and Cassie are in back.
Looking out at Anthony Lake near where the trailhead starts.
It was a short trail and mostly uphill.
This was the first time Deanne carried all of her own stuff.
She did really good, with only minimal complaining.
Reaching Hoffer Lakes, we drop our packs and scout around for a suitable camp site.
Hoffer Lake
Walking along the edge of the lake, we met many wet obstacles.
The mosquitoes were absolutely horrible!
It was pretty marshy around the lake
The kids set off to find how far the marsh extends into the meadow..
We found one good place to set up camp,
but with the mosquitoes as bad as they were,
we decided to head back down the mountain to some walk-in camp sites we passed along the way.
We found one around 10 pm as it was beginning to get dark
and set up camp right quick and sat down to relax.

At the trailhead leading to Black Lake
We passed by Lilypad Lake on the way
further up the Black Lake trail

And again a little closer...

The trail around the lake disappeared and we all ended up getting our shoes wet wading across the marsh to meet up with the trail again.
Erika and I hiked along the shoreline of Anthony lake
while Shane and the others drove to meet us on the other side.
